America’s Premier U-18/U-16 Rugby Tournament

June 19-21, 2015

The Rocky Mountain Challenge was established in 2001 as a showcase for high school age, all-star rugby teams from all over the western United States to play against the best level of age grade competition in the country. In addition, the tournament provides an opportunity for the USARugby national team coaches and selectors to scout the best players in the country. These players are then invited to train with and advance to the Junior Eagles, the United States Under-20 and Under-18 national teams. These sides annually compete against the best international teams in the world and many of these players will represent the USA in the 2016 Olympics. As an example, 17 of the 37 players on the current Under-20 national team roster have played in the Rocky Mountain Challenge.  30 players from the 2013 Rocky Mountain Challenge were invited to the National Team Tryouts in 2013. In addition several Rocky Mountain Challenge alums have achieved National and International recognition.

From an initial field of four Under-19 sides, the Rocky Mountain Challenge has grown to over 20 teams in two brackets, Under-18 (Varsity) and Under-16 (Junior Varsity) from throughout the United States. In 2010, our 10th annual tournament added a Women’s Under-19 pool, maintaining the Rocky Mountain Challenge as the largest of the age grade tournaments.  The tournament also includes games for TRY (Touch Rugby Youth), the Rugby Colorado Organization, involving hundreds of Colorado children and their families.

The Rocky Mountain Challenge is sanctioned by the Rocky Mountain Rugby Union ( formerly Eastern Rockies Rugby Football Union), a 501c3 non-profit organization. This all-volunteer event has additional corporate and individual sponsors that provide funding and in-kind contributions to help make this important tournament a success. We are requesting that your organization join the ranks of our sponsors in helping our volunteer committee continue this proud and valuable Colorado tradition.

For additional information on the Rocky Mountain Challenge, please contact Bob Lesnansky, Tournament Director, at 720- 271-5511 or via e-mail at rockymountainchallenge@gmail.com.

The participation this year will have over 800 participants (which include players, coaches, referees and volunteers) and 800 plus spectators per day.
